Hip-Hop Archives: Past, Present, Future

September 20 – October 5

Selorm Attikpo, aka SelormJay, is a photographer, filmmaker, and DJ from Accra, Ghana who has spent the last 15 years documenting hip-hop culture in West Africa and around the world. As the founder and creative director of yoyo tinz he has worked to archive, document, and amplify the Ghanaian hip-hop scene, including organizing Ghana’s first hip-hop festival in 2018.

“Hip-Hop Archives: Past, Present, Future” takes viewers on a three-part journey; through photographs and other archival documents, we see Selorm’s past experiences with yoyo tinz and the hip-hop community in Ghana and throughout Africa, his current experience of the hip-hop scene in Atlanta through his artist residency with Villa Albertine, and his future vision of creating a hip-hop museum or cultural center in Ghana.
