Zoe Parker Kennedy is a painter, tattooer, and mixed media artist currently based in Atlanta, Georgia. Working primarily with acrylic on wood panel, Zoe’s focus is in relating the struggles of the human condition with the repetitive patterns and cycles found in nature. Her work asks the question, “What makes us human in an increasingly technological world?”

Her process often involves engaging with a panel for a number of years, covering and uncovering previous renditions hidden under layers of paint. Large areas of a panel might be completely covered and returned to later, scratching at the surface in an attempt to expose what lies underneath. Zoe’s work draws meaning from the physical nature of her process, and visual inspiration from both the natural world and industrial society.

Zoe’s work in tattooing is also process based, relying on analog technology, repetition of symbols, and exclusively hand drawn designs. These tattoo designs are later embedded in her paintings, where they serve as recurring motifs.

Replica Doves will be on display at Rampant Gallery from 8/2 – 9/7.
